Many of my friends will pick up a short-term disability policy if they are planning a pregnancy.

However, it takes two weeks for that short-term disability policy to go into effect.

I believe that our city should take a strong look at partially paid maternity leave for city employees.  We don’t need the state or federal government’s permission to move in the right direction, just proactive leadership.

I propose a wage that is equal to 50% of pay for two weeks in order to bridge the gap until short term disability becomes active.
